Christian Clauwers is a documentary photographer and explorer documenting climate change, biodiversity loss, sea-level rise, and the transformation of fragile ecosystems worldwide.

Through visual storytelling, he connects science with the human and cultural dimensions of environmental change. His fieldwork spans the polar regions, the world’s oceans, and remote island communities.

He was appointed by the Belgian Federal Science Policy Office (BELSPO) for the visual communication of Belgium’s research vessel R/V BELGICA and its scientific campaigns.

Christian holds master’s degrees in Political Science and Global Management and is a Fellow of The Explorers Club and the Royal Geographical Society, as well as an EU Climate Pact Ambassador.

Hans Bruyninckx is the regional Director for Europe of the World Resources Institute and the former Executive Director of the European Environment Agency (2013–2023).

A Belgian political scientist, he holds a PhD in international environmental politics from Colorado State University and has taught at universities across Europe and the US.

His career spans over two decades of research and policy leadership in climate change, sustainability, and global environmental governance.

Beyond academia, he has advised governments, civil society, and business on environmental transitions.

Fluent in four languages, he is also an avid sailor and outdoor enthusiast.

Prof. Dr. Gudrun De Boeck is a professor at the University of Antwerp and head of the ECOSPHERE research group, which studies ecosystems under human impact on land, in water, and at sea.

Her research focuses on how environmental change affects aquatic organisms, with a strong interest in fish and sharks.

She also chairs the Institute for Environment and Sustainable Development and serves as president of the Society for Experimental Biology.

Inspired by a 2023 expedition to Antarctica, she is committed to education, outreach, and protecting marine and polar ecosystems for future generations.

Kris Broos has joined the Society for Environmental Awareness (SEA) as Secretary, where he plays a vital role in coordinating and strategically supporting the organization.

Kris oversees SEA’s administrative structure, supports initiatives focused on climate and biodiversity, and strengthens collaboration between partners and volunteers.

A hands-on, no-nonsense professional, he is recognized for his perseverance, results-driven mindset, and ability to turn challenges into innovative solutions. 

With more than 53 years of experience in the international logistics, customs, and freight forwarding sector, Marc founded several companies and later focused on consultancy. 

He also served as chairman and board member of major Belgian and European industry associations and has been an active lecturer and guest speaker in logistics and management education.

Herman Hellenbosch graduated in 1992 with a Master of Law from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, followed by a postgraduate Master in Economic Law.

Since 1993, he has been a member of the Antwerp Balie, where he has built extensive expertise in commercial and economic law.

For more than 20 years, he has served as a court-appointed curator in insolvency cases at the Antwerp Commercial Court.

In 1999, he was appointed deputy judge at the Court of Peace in Merksem, now the 10th canton of Antwerp, where he continues to contribute his legal knowledge and experience.

Dr. Maria De La Fuente Ruiz holds a Ph.D. in Ocean Sciences, where her research focused on methane release from warming ocean sediments and thawing permafrost –key drivers of climate feedbacks.

Alongside her academic work, she is an EU Climate Pact Ambassador, advocating for sustainability and scientific literacy. Passionate about making science accessible, she translates complex environmental issues into engaging narratives for diverse audiences, with a special focus on Spanish-speaking communities.

Through research, advocacy, and communication, Maria works to bridge science and society, empowering people to understand climate change and inspiring collective action for a more sustainable future.

Dr. Tanhua is a chemical oceanographer studying ocean ventilation, mixing, and carbon dynamics through tracer observations and release experiments. His research explores how ocean chemistry influences climate change, with a focus on carbon, nutrients, and oxygen cycles. 

Passionate about advancing global ocean observation, he coordinates the EU project BioGeoSea on biogeochemical Essential Ocean Variables. 

Toste also leads the innovation platform SOOP — Shaping an Ocean of Possibilities, which bridges science and industry by enabling non-scientists to contribute to ocean monitoring.

Laura combines marine mammal research with a passion for science communication and ocean literacy.

Her commitment to thinking globally and acting locally inspired her to create Po Bangom, the first ocean literacy organization in Lithuania.

Currently pursuing her PhD at Vilnius University, she studies grey seals in the Baltic Sea while also serving as Communications Officer for UNESCO-IOC’s Global Ocean Observing System.

Through research, outreach, and education, Laura works to connect communities with the ocean and promote sustainable stewardship of marine ecosystems.

Jasper Verreydt is a climate entrepreneur and brought a novel hydropower technology to life with Turbulent, which he co-founded and made active worldwide through several projects including EU’s Horizon2020.
